Are WoW leveling guides worth the money?
I can't speak for all guides, but the ones I have reviewed are surprisingly good. They are a great complement to the official World of Warcraft strategy guides.
The official WoW strategy guides are more encyclopedia than strategy guide. They focus on maps, equipment tables, and articles about the game. They make great reading, but in the end many players end up using them as Atlases. This is because maps tend to stay the same.
This is the weakness of printed material: it gets out of date. When Blizzard changes the stats on an item, or changes a quest the guide is no longer accurate. Sadly reading the guide can actually make you dumber, because what you're reading is not true. Downloadable guides have an advantage here, because most authors update them when the game changes and allow lifetime downloads. You don't need to worry about being out of date.
Another way downloadable WoW guides are different than the official guides is that they tend to focus on specific aspects of the game. For example, Alliance leveling, Horde leveling, skilling up professions, and gold farming.
